Background
What started as an organizing project for this family kitchen soon blossomed into a kitchen refresh plan. The couple’s passion for cooking and sharing their efforts with family and friends really drove the need to consider updating their tired kitchen space.
Their existing kitchen didn’t comfortably lend itself to more than one chef in the kitchen at any time. These culinary enthusiasts wanted to start creating YouTube videos that would feature their cooking endeavors along with tips for growing herbs and vegetables.
The budget was limited, but there was a list of numerous elements that needed some TLC. A full remodel was not in the cards for this family. The goal to create more space, light, organization, function, and flow in the kitchen to engage family and friends in the cooking adventures and great conversation?
Renovation Solutions
To be conscious of the budget the original cabinets were kept (and they were in good shape). A fresh coat of white paint was applied to eliminate the existing honey-stained finish's dated appearance. The kitchen's footprint was not going to change but adding some additional gathering space would be a bonus. Besides new countertops, the pony wall between the kitchen and living room was lowered to extend the countertop to create a breakfast bar for seating, entertaining, and more food prep area.
Attractive white 16" subway tile was installed on the backsplash, which will make for easy kitchen cleanup. The non-functioning range hood was replaced with a stainless induct fan. Finishing touches included sleek stainless steel cabinet handles, new track lighting, along with geometrical pendant lights were hung above the new counter area.
Any kitchen refresh needs a new granite sink and shiny new faucet to complete the update. Installation of a lazy susan in one corner cupboard and additional shelving and hooks added to the broom closet created more storage space for kitchen items.
